Included items

  • sonar port without buying a redundant transom transducer. Second, anglers who already run a HELIX or APEX network on the boat can pull sonar from another unit over Ethernet and put the HELIX 15 at a second station. Third, builders who plan to add MEGA 360 Imaging or another accessory transducer separately don't need to throw away the standard transducer that would have come bundled. You build the system you actually want.
  • Control head, gimbal bracket, power cable, install hardware (no transducer)

FAQ

What does CHO mean? What's actually in the box?

CHO stands for Control Head Only. The box contains the 15.4-inch HELIX 15 display, the gimbal mounting bracket, the power cable, and the install hardware. There is no transducer in the box. You'll source the transducer separately based on how you want to feed sonar to the unit.

Why would I want a CHO model instead of a packaged unit?

Three common reasons. First, you're running a trolling motor with built-in MEGA imaging in the head and don't need a transom transducer at all. Second, you already have a Humminbird Ethernet network on the boat with a transducer feeding sonar to another unit, and you want this HELIX as a second station that pulls from the network. Third, you're planning to add MEGA 360 Imaging or another specialty transducer separately and don't want a redundant standard transducer in the closet.

What sonar does it support?

MEGA Down Imaging+ at 1100 to 1200 kHz for photo-quality straight-down imagery, plus Dual Spectrum CHIRP sonar with wide mode (140 to 200 kHz) for searching and narrow mode (180 to 240 kHz) for detail work. The unit also accepts ActiveTarget-class sonar from network feeds and supports MEGA 360 Imaging via the accessory transducer. No SideScan on this CHO unit unless you add a SideScan-capable accessory transducer.

Is the screen sunlight readable?

Yes. The HELIX line uses bright LCD panels designed for marine helm use. The 15.4 inches makes the screen easy to read even in glare conditions, and the matte finish on the bezel keeps reflections under control. Polarized sunglasses sometimes interact with the screen at certain angles, which is a universal LCD issue, not specific to HELIX.

What chart cards work with it?

Premium chart cards including LakeMaster, CoastMaster, and SmartStrike from Humminbird, plus compatible third-party chart cards. The dual microSD slots let you keep a chart card and an AutoChart card loaded at the same time. The internal storage already includes Humminbird Basemap covering more than 10,000 lakes and continental US coastal waters.

Can I network it with another HELIX or an APEX?

Yes. Ethernet networking is built in. You can share sonar, charts, waypoints, routes, and cursor position across multiple HELIX or APEX displays on the same network. Use a 5-port Ethernet switch if you're running more than two units. Cat5e or better cables are required for reliable networking.

Does it work with shallow water anchors and trolling motors?

Yes, over Bluetooth and the One-Boat Network ecosystem. Compatible shallow water anchors deploy and retract from the screen, and compatible trolling motors share status, position, and waypoint data with the HELIX. Pair the device once through the menu and it stays paired across sessions.

What's AutoChart Live?

AutoChart Live builds a custom contour and bottom-hardness map in real time as you idle around the water with sonar pinging. Eight hours of recording sit in the unit's onboard memory by default. Add an AutoChart Zero Line SD card and the recording capacity becomes effectively unlimited. For lakes without good commercial cartography, AutoChart Live is the feature that maps them.

How is power input? Will it interfere with my other electronics?

The unit runs on 12V DC. Use a dedicated marine-grade tinned wire run from the battery, properly fused. Don't share the power feed with bilge pumps, washdowns, or noisy accessories, because that's the most common cause of sonar interference patterns on the imagery.

Is it waterproof?

Yes. The HELIX line is rated for marine helm use and the housing is sealed against water and salt spray. Rinse the unit with fresh water occasionally if it sees heavy spray and the housing will last for years.
